Thanks! I haven't worked in government organisations but would hazard a guess that there is certainly a bit of fat to take out!

A very true insight into many organisations.

Do you think that Government Departments are the ultimate Fat organisations?

I think that this post about meetings is spot on - and in order to be proactive, design a future facing more useful way of discussing and disseminating information we need to hold a meeting. I won't be bringing a pen - someone else can do the leg work - I've set the wheels in motion, can't be expected to do everything! Let me know when it's not happening. Cheers.

The classic 9th waste in a Fat Office is the Fat Printer, where the HR dept (working closely with their IT spies) install one giant printer/fax/copier/toaster to ensure staff get to know eachother when queueing for their print outs. And if you mark your stuff 'confidential' you can be sure everyone will have read it before you get your hands on it. Guaranteed to spark off lots of gossip and idle speculation that can keep the office going for weeks. Fat is the new Lean!

Excellent analysis of how to make an office Fat! Locked desk drawers can be great fun, particularly if you ask yor staff to lock away chocolate over a long holiday. The mice just love it!
